BOCA RATON —  The Miami Heat are returning to Florida Atlantic University for training camp, the team announced Thursday.

The Heat will hold training sessions there from Sept. 29 through Oct. 2 on Abessinio Court at Eleanor R. Baldwin Arena, with all sessions closed to the public.

The Heat first will hold their annual media day Monday at Kaseya Center and then the day after breaking camp will play their preseason opener on Oct. 3 in Quebec City against the Toronto Raptors, the first of five exhibitions.

This will be the seventh camp for the Heat at FAU, also having held such sessions on the Boca Raton campus in 2000, 2015, 2017, 2018, 2023 and last year.

This year’s camp will be the first with the Heat for Giannis Antetokounmpo, who is among several newcomers to the roster coached by Erik Spoelstra. Also added in the offseason have been NBA veterans Klay Thompson, Tim Hardaway Jr., Bobby Portis and Nick Richards, as well as rookies Ryan Conwell and Tre Donaldson.

The Heat have alternated holding their annual camps both at Kaseya Center and away venues, including one in 2010 at the Hurlburt Field Air Force installation at Eglin Air Force Base in the Florida Panhandle ahead of the first Big Three season with Dwyane Wade, LeBron James and Chris Bosh. The team also has trained several times in the Bahamas, as well as several smaller colleges in Palm Beach County.

The Heat could have returned to the Bahamas for this year’s camp, but elected to remain closer to home after initially being scheduled to travel to Abu Dhabi and Qatar for exhibitions, with the NBA canceling those preseason games due to concerns about unrest in the Middle East and accompanying logistical concerns.

Several Heat players already have been working out in advance of training camp at Kaseya Center, after previously holding a team bonding session earlier this month in California.

The sessions bring center Vlad Goldin, who is on a two-way contract, back to the campus of FAU, having helped lead the Owls to the 2023 NCAA Final Four.

The Heat open the franchise’s 39th season on Oct. 21 against the Minnesota Timberwolves at Kaseya Center.
