CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The Charlotte Hornets are making another move before training camp, bringing veteran guard and sharpshooter Buddy Hield to the Queen City in a three-player trade with the Atlanta Hawks.
The Hornets sent forward Dorian Finney-Smith to Atlanta in exchange for Hield, guard Ryan Nembhard and cash considerations. The deal was officially announced Tuesday night after initially being reported by ESPN’s Shams Charania. (NBA.com)
Hield, 33, enters Charlotte with a reputation as one of the NBA’s longtime perimeter shooters. He has made 2,201 career 3-pointers, which ranks 15th in NBA history. Last season, he appeared in 51 games between the Golden State Warriors and Hawks, averaging 7.6 points per game. (https://www.wbtv.com)
Nembhard also joins the Hornets after playing 60 games for the Dallas Mavericks last season. The 23-year-old averaged 6.6 points and 5.3 assists per game during his rookie season. (NBA.com)
The move comes just days before Charlotte opens training camp on Sept. 29, giving the Hornets another veteran presence and another experienced shooter as the team prepares for the 2026-27 season.
