The Brooklyn Nets have had many players suit up for the franchise ever since it relocated from New Jersey to New York City as it looked to broaden its fanbase. Brooklyn took the chance on Isaiah Whitehead over a decade ago to be one of the players that the organization could build with, but it looks like he’s ending his tenure as a professional basketball player.
“15 OUT 🫡🖤 hell of a career on the court,” Whitehead wrote in a post on X on Saturday where he seemingly announced that he was stepping away from professional basketball for good. Whitehead spent the 2025-26 season with Ironi Nes Ziona of the Israeli BSL where he averaged 8.0 points, 3.8 rebounds, and 3.4 assists per game while shooting 30.1% from the field and 19.0% from behind the three-point line.
Whitehead, 31, first entered the NBA as a second-round pick of the Utah Jazz in the 2016 NBA Draft before he was traded to the Nets for guard Marcus Paige and cash. In his first season with Brooklyn during the 2016-17 season, Whitehead played in 73 games (26 starts) and averaged 7.4 points, 2.5 rebounds, and 2.6 assists per contest while shooting 40.2% from the floor and 29.5% from deep.
In the next season, Whitehead played in just 16 games as he was assigned to the Long Island Nets, Brooklyn’s G League affiliate, multiple times over the course of the year. After the conclusion of the 2017-18 season, Whitehead was traded to the Denver Nuggets for Darrell Arthur, Kenneth Faried, a 2019 first-round draft pick and a 2020 second-round draft pick.
After that trade, Whitehead was soon waived by the Nuggets, but he managed to stick around in the league thanks to his landing a Two-Way deal with the Detroit Pistons during the 2018-19 season. Since then, Whitehead has played overseas for various teams in a variety of leagues where he averaged at least 10.9 points per game for seven straight years prior to the 2025-26 campaign.
