Rui Hachimura has traded in the Los Angeles Lakers for the Los Angeles Clippers this offseason. Considering everything that has gone on with the Clips, he might be regretting that decision.
The Clippers’ future looks a little bleak after the NBA fined them five first-round picks and suspended most of the team’s top bosses for a year for circumventing the salary cap to pay Kawhi Leonard.
While that will work against the franchise in some cases, it helps in others. Hachimura’s comments are certainly interesting considering this context, even though Chris Paul may have a thing or two to say about it.

The Clippers took such great care of Kawhi, they ended up forfeiting their future for one Western Conference Finals. He’s no longer on the team, either, but he got paid an amazing amount of money anyway.
On the other hand, the way they treated CP3 in his last year in the NBA was nothing short of disgraceful. They have likely alienated arguably their greatest franchise legend. Which is what makes the Japanese star’s comments so wild.
“One thing everyone says about the Clippers is how well they take care of players,” Hachimura said on media day according to reporter Farbod Esnaashari.
The choice to say this considering the way this offseason has unfolded for the franchise is a bit hard to fathom. Hachimura may feel some type of way about having joined a team that will essentially be struggling to recover for the foreseeable future.

While they will certainly do their best to take care of the players that end up on the team, the Clips can’t give them what they gave Kawhi. And those players will be praying they don’t get the same treatment as the Point God.
