Two-time NBA champion J.R. Smith was arrested in Hunt County on Tuesday morning and charged with family violence assault, jail records show.
Smith, whose full name is Earl Joseph Smith, was arrested in Royse City and booked into the Hunt County Detention Center. Jail records show bond has not yet been set for his case.
Smith played 16 seasons in the NBA and was the league’s Sixth Man of the Year in 2013. He won two championships with the Cleveland Cavaliers and the Los Angeles Lakers, both of which were won alongside NBA star LeBron James. Smith also spent time with the Hornets, Nuggets and Knicks.
After retiring from the NBA he enrolled at North Carolina A&T, where he became a competitive golfer, and has recently begun a professional golf career.
