Despite all the chaos within the Phoenix Suns, Devin Booker seems ready to commit to the team. With new head coach Jordan Ott, there is excitement in the Suns organization.

The 2024-25 season was an utter disaster for the Phoenix Suns. They entered the campaign looking to reach the Playoffs and possibly compete for a championship. That was not the case, as they failed to even make the Play-In Tournament due to their 36-46 record.

Those expectations were high because the team had a trio of Devin Booker, Kevin Durant, and Bradley Beal. Unfortunately, that trio could not lead them to their goal, which made them the laughingstock of the NBA community.

Durant is likely on his way out, but his running mate, Booker, is staying. He played a vital role in their recent hiring of Jordan Ott to replace Mike Budenholzer. Booker showed his frustration with how the 2024-25 season happened, but he wants to make it work.

With Durant halfway out the door, people might think this is a full-on rebuild for the Suns. That is not the case because their longest-tenured player wants to stay and make it work. He has been the star player for a long time, and he wants to keep that going.

If and when the Suns trade Durant, they should get a generous package. That could help Booker and his plans to stay with the team because he will have more talented teammates. They might not be as prolific as Durant, but depth could be good for Phoenix.

Booker’s contract pushes through the 2027-28 season, but he wants to stay well into his 30s. He is reportedly looking for a two-year extension worth $150 million. Team owner Mat Ishbia should be ready to meet that number, given Booker’s star power.

“Devin Booker becomes eligible for a two-year, $150 million contract extension on July 6 that the 28-year-old is widely expected to secure,” Marc Stein reported on The Stein Line.

“Booker, remember, was brought into the coaching search in its final week or so for discussions with a few prime candidates.”

Since he was integral in the process of picking Ott, the Suns plan on keeping Booker. He is their star player, so sticking with him is a good choice. His co-star is leaving in a trade, so it is bittersweet because they couldn’t realize their potential.

The Suns have an interesting future beyond the 2024-25 season

After years of being a competitive team, the Suns had an embarrassing 2024-25 season. They had a star-studded team, but they could not get their rhythm. Now that they are making significant changes, the Suns have a promising future ahead.

Booker is still one of the NBA’s best players, so the team is in good hands. He has a decent supporting cast around him, including a motivated Beal. Trading him will be tougher than sending Durant away, but Beal should be good enough to justify his contract.

Ott is a promising head coach with experience around the league. With a fresh face in the locker room, the Suns should look better than before. They want to surprise the rest of the league by performing better than in the 2024-25 season.

Suns franchise cornerstone Devin Booker was involved in the search process during the final stages and stamped Ott as his top choice as well, sources said. Ott has been on NBA coaching staffs with the Hawks, Nets, Lakers and Cavaliers since 2012. https://t.co/zMNBy9lHrA

It was a disastrous campaign, but the Suns are still a talented team. They want to get past their nightmare and remain a good team. Booker will be the star player, as they work around all their 2024-25 issues.
