The latest Chronicle preview is of freshman Bryson Howard, and since people started seeing Duke practice, there’s been a significant buzz about Howard.
At 6-4, he’s got good size for a guard. He’s also very long-armed and athletic, and people who have seen him play have raved about his shooting.
He’s also a willing defender, which is a must if you want to get on the court for Jon Scheyer. Some people even view him as a potential lottery pick, which is a huge jump for a guy who was unranked after his junior year of high school. From the Chronicle:
”Howard brings a long, physical build to the Blue Devils, excelling at getting downhill, absorbing contact and becoming a fierce attacker around the rim. He has also developed into a capable shooter, making 34% of his three as a senior and 45% on the Nike EYBL circuit. His strong efficiency from deep is even more impressive given his 6-foot-11 wingspan. On the other end of the court, his length and quickness make him a strong defender, able to poke balls free and recover from mistakes. In his senior year, he averaged 3.2 steals and 1.3 blocks per game.”
