Anne Hathaway spent part of a promotional appearance doing something few co-stars are asked to do: Proving that New York Knicks forward OG Anunoby is a real person.

Johnson, Hathaway and Josh Hartnett sat for Hot Ones Versus on the First We Feast channel to promote their film, Verity. The segment included a guessing game in which Hathaway held names against her head while her co-stars supplied clues. One of the cards read “OG Anunoby.”

Hartnett, looking for an entry point, offered that the name sounded like something that goes way back and involved original gangster. Hathaway got there. Johnson did not. She told the room the name was not real, accused the producers of planting the card on purpose, and had to be walked through the idea that Anunoby exists.

Absolutely amazing watching lifelong Knicks fan Anne Hathaway having to explain to Josh Hartnett and Dakota Johnson who OG Anunoby is 😂 pic.twitter.com/HPH6y9S9oO

Hathaway, a long-time Knicks fan, used the opening. She pointed Johnson to Game 4 of the NBA Finals, when Anunoby’s putback with 1.2 seconds remaining became the defining basket of the series, and called the play poetry in motion.

Her fandom was already on record. Courtside seats are a standing birthday request. Anunoby once ran into her and her son while chasing a loose ball. After the title, he sent her a signed jersey that Jimmy Fallon presented on The Tonight Show, where Hathaway said she would take a second Knicks championship over a second Oscar.

The clip traveled because the split was so clean. Hathaway knew the name on sight. Johnson needed the Finals, the jersey, and a short explanation before she was willing to accept it.
