Josh Hart has made a firm statement about his contract negotiations with the New York Knicks.

The 31-year-old has a team option for the final year of his contract with the Knicks. It is a team option, which means the Knicks will have to make a bold choice about his future when they start discussions.

The team announced a few days ago that they were going to move contract talks with Hart and Karl-Anthony Towns to later in the season. While this does mean that Hart will go into the 2026-27 season without a clear indication of a new deal, he is confident that everything will work out.

Josh Hart happy to be playing for the New York Knicks

Hart is one of the most important players on the roster and retaining him is going to be key for the Knicks as his chemistry with the others on the team is something that has helped them achieve great success.

He would likely have to take a pay cut to help the Knicks with their salary cap situation, but regardless of what happens, the NBA champion is focused on the mission, which is to reclaim the Larry O’Brien trophy.

“At the end of the day, I’m still under contract in New York. We have a hell of a team that’s going to try and repeat. I’m in an amazing situation off the court, so it’s not frustrating,” said Hart in his press conference.

“Obviously you want to get some of those things done but if it doesn’t it’s nothing you lose sleep over. We’re blessed we are here playing basketball.”

Hart is on a four-year, $80 million contract currently. But with KAT, Jalen Brunson and OG Anunoby all still waiting on an extension, it will be interesting to see what contract the Knicks offer him.
