After five seasons with Monaco and winning the EuroLeague Best Defender award, Alpha Diallo is making his NBA jump with the Denver Nuggets. Returning to Colorado, the 29-year-old forward is confident his versatile, lockdown defense will seamlessly translate to playing alongside Nikola Jokic.

Alpha Diallo is embarking on an exciting new chapter in his basketball career.

At 29 years old, the standout forward is making the jump to the NBA after five stellar seasons with Monaco, where he established himself as one of the premier perimeter defenders in Europe and captured the EuroLeague Best Defender honor.

Now, he finds himself stepping onto the American hardwood as a member of the Denver Nuggets, ready to carve out a meaningful role alongside multi-time MVP Nikola Jokic.

Earlier connections with Colorado

This transition also marks a special homecoming for Diallo, who spent his formative years in Colorado and attended Denver West High School.

Speaking about his fit and responsibilities on the court, Diallo shared his optimism regarding his versatility:

“I think my all-around game will show as the season goes on,” Diallo said for BasketUSA.

“I can bring a lot of different things. It will depend on what the coaches need me to do.”

Known primarily for his grit and lockdown capabilities on the defensive end, Diallo feels confident that his European habits will translate seamlessly to the NBA stage.

“You have to put pressure on the ball, move your feet, stay between your opponent and the basket, and contest shots,” he explained.

How are the Nuggets similar to European basketball

Diallo has also noticed a unique tactical atmosphere within the Nuggets organization, noting that Adelman’s style carries a distinctly familiar flair for someone coming over from overseas competition.

“I would say he’s a little like a European coach. He’s very intense. He pushes players, but he also knows how to encourage them.”

While many NBA fans and opposing players may not yet fully realize what the veteran forward brings to the table, Diallo is more than ready to introduce himself on the biggest stage possible. With a fierce competitive spirit and a point to prove, he issued a clear warning to anyone tasked with matching up against him:

“When I’m assigned to guard someone, if they don’t know who I am, hopefully they’ll find out very quickly,” he concluded.
