After the Los Angeles Clippers parted ways with Kawamura, Hachimura offered a blunt reaction to the exit of his fellow Japanese star.
“He really worked hard during training camp, so I want him to keep that up. Also, while chasing your dream is important, you have to make smart decisions,” Hachimura told Japan sports media member Yoko Miyaji.
“He’s already 25 years old, so I want him to keep that in mind as he moves forward.”
LA Clippers waive Yuki Kawamura
On Monday, the LA Clippers announced they have waived Yuki Kawamura.
If no other team claims Kawamura off waivers, the Japanese fan favorite is expected to join the San Diego Clippers, the team’s G League affiliate.
Kawamura joined the Clippers via an Exhibit 10 deal this past offseason. He competed in the training camp and appeared in LA’s two preseason games.
He dropped 10 points on 3-for-4 shooting with four assists and two steals across 14 minutes in LA’s 114-106 loss against the Toronto Raptors last Saturday.
What will be next for Yuki Kawamura?
Following his LA Clippers exit, Yuki Kawamura finds himself facing an important situation to decide about what might be next in his career.
After starting his NBA career with the Memphis Grizzlies back in 2024-25, Kawamura spent the previous season as a member of the Chicago Bulls.
Throughout these two seasons, Kawamura has averaged 2.5 points, 1.1 rebounds, and 1.7 assists per game across 40 career regular-season appearances.
Should Kawamura decide not to pursue another NBA stint for the 2026-27 season, he will still have plenty of opportunities, with a return to Japan for the B.League as his best possible option.
