For a second, it looks like Steve Kerr has left the Warriors bench and wandered into the stands. A fan in gray sweats, carrying a half-full beer, walks toward a courtside seat with the same silver hair, haircut and serious expression as Golden State’s coach.
The resemblance gets even funnier as he makes his way past the fans. People nearby seem to keep looking back, as if they’re trying to decide whether they just saw the real Kerr.
Then the camera catches Kerr noticing him. The coach gets up, turns and stares for a beat, looking genuinely thrown by the sight of his near-twin just a few seats behind the bench.
The fan is Steve Gillis, a Las Vegas teacher and volleyball coach whose uncanny resemblance to Kerr has fooled people before. This time, though, the real coach got a front-row look at the double.
The moment happened during Golden State’s 128-118 preseason win over the Portland Trail Blazers at Chase Center on Friday. The Warriors finished their exhibition schedule with a 4-2 record.
