Mullins landed on the second team and Demary on the third. Demary also made the preseason All-Defensive team, giving the Huskies recognition on multiple fronts before the first tip when th season opens Nov. 2 in Hartford against Gardner-Webb.
Mullins, the sophomore who has been out for nearly a month with an undisclosed injury but is nearing a return, earned second-team honors. Mullins was a Big East All-Freshman team pick last season after averaging 12 points per game.
That second team includes JT Toppin of Texas Tech, PJ Haggerty of Texas A&M, Robert Wright III of BYU and Duke’s Joaquim Boumtje Boumtje.
The second-team nod puts Mullins a tier below a first team of Jeremy Fears Jr. (Michigan State), Tyler Tanner (Vanderbilt), Tyran Stokes (Kansas), Thomas Haugh (Florida) and Flory Bidunga (Louisville).
Demary was named to the third team alongside Elliot Cadeau of Michigan, Duke’s John Blackwell, Tennessee’s Juke Harris and Nebraska’s Pryce Sandfort.
Demary averaged 10.1 points, 4.5 rebounds and 5.9 assists per game last season and Big East Conference coaches voted him the preseason player of the year. He was one of only six players nationally named to both the Naismith Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year late-season teams last season. He led the Big East in assists with 229 and shot the ball efficiently at 44.6% overall, 38.5% from 3-point range and 80.1% from the foul line.
Demary’s value is not limited to the offensive end. He also made the preseason All-Defensive team, joining Houston’s Joseph Tugler, Arizona’s Ivan Kharchenkov, Louisville’s Flory Bidunga, Duke’s Dame Sarr, Florida’s Rueben Chinyelu and Iowa State’s Killyan Toure.
The rest of Bilas’ list reflects a deep national field. Honorable mentions include Illinois’ David Mirkovic, Michigan’s Trey McKenney, Virginia’s Thijs De Ridder, Houston’s Joseph Tugler, Mississippi State’s Josh Hubbard, Arizona’s Motiejus Krivas, Arkansas’ Jordan Smith Jr., Marquette’s Nigel James Jr. and Gonzaga’s Braden Huff. Meanwhile, transfers such as Kentucky’s Milan Momcilovic, Blackwell, Haggerty, Bidunga, Harris, St. John’s Tounde Yessoufou and North Carolina’s Terrence Brown made the All-Transfer team.
