A vital member of the Minnesota Timberwolves, Jaden McDaniels has developed into one of the NBA’s top perimeter players. Since his draft selection in 2020, the 26-year-old has been a member of the team. He has dedicated his future to the Wolves and is about to start his 8th season. In a recent interview with Dane Moore, he said he initially tried to avoid being selected by the Minnesota Timberwolves and explained why.

Jaden McDaniels Reveals Why He Initially Wanted to Avoid the Timberwolves Before NBA Draft

This season, the Minnesota Timberwolves seem to be among the NBA’s most thrilling teams. The Wolves can even be regarded as contenders, with LaMelo Ball and Anthony Edwards leading the squad in the backcourt. However, the importance of a player like Jaden McDaniels should not be disregarded. But it seems that he wanted to stay away from the Wolves.

ESPN reports that McDaniels has signed a unique $40 million one-year contract extension that will keep him in Minnesota through the 2029-30 campaign. Now, he recently opened up with Dane Moore about his reluctance to join the Wolves.

“In the draft process, I didn’t know where I was going. This was actually the team I was trying to stay away from. So I ended up coming here not knowing how it was gonna be. The first year was terrible, but after that, we started winning, building, getting better, and adding more pieces. It has just been a good situation.”

When asked why he was against a move to the Wolves, he said: “Yeah, they were just bad. Just bad as f***.”

Although this demonstrates McDaniels’ dedication to Minnesota, he acknowledged that he didn’t always feel this way about the Timberwolves after Minnesota defeated the Heat 131-106. Following the game, McDaniels talked about his NBA draft experience and his choice to sign a second contract extension with the Timberwolves. Now, McDaniels has emerged as one of Minnesota’s most valued assets.

Jaden McDaniels’ Rise From Timberwolves Doubts to Becoming a Key Two-Way Star

Prior to the 2020 NBA Draft, the Minnesota Timberwolves were having a difficult season. They finished 19-45 and were still in the bottom half of the Western Conference standings. Thus, McDaniels’ early misgivings about the franchise made sense. But since then, the player and the team have both advanced significantly.

Over the past few seasons, McDaniels has progressively grown into one of the NBA’s most promising two-way forwards. The Minnesota Timberwolves player, who is well-known for his length, agility, and athleticism, has also honed his offensive abilities to become a dependable scoring option. He averaged 14.8 points, 4.2 rebounds, 2.7 assists, 1.1 steals, and 1.0 blocks per game during the previous campaign. But his postseason performances are especially noteworthy due to his increasing significance to Minnesota’s championship aspirations.
