Despite a comfortable win against their city rivals, the Lakers struggled with turnovers, committing 21 of them. Luka Doncic stood out the most, committing a career-worst 11.
After the game, Lakers head coach JJ Redick admitted that the team is dealing with a significant turnover problem, but he believes this will improve as the new-look roster builds chemistry throughout the season.
“We know the turnovers are a problem and we’ll continue to work at it,” Redick said at the postgame press conference.
“A lot of it is not being great in special situations like traps – there’s one play where Q’s running away from the ball and not even looking at it, I had flashbacks to Game 6 in Utah in 2017 when I did the same thing to CP and he almost killed me,” he said.
“The reality is a lot of the turnovers are just the pass in front of them, just make the pass in front of you. They had 16 assists tonight, they trust their teammates. It’s building that familiarity over the course of a season,” Redick added.

Despite the early growing pains as new players adjust to one another, the biggest bright spot for the team has been the play of new center Walker Kessler.
Kessler’s connection with Doncic and Reaves seems to be almost perfect, with Kessler dominating so far in his first two games.
Through his first two games, he is averaging an incredible 24.0 points, 8.5 rebounds, and 4.0 blocks, while shooting 84.6% from the field.
Kessler scored 20-plus points in back-to-back games for the first time in his five NBA seasons, finishing with an impressive stat line of 22 points, 8 rebounds, 3 assists, 3 steals, and 6 blocks, all while shooting 10-of-14 (71.4%) from the field in 35 minutes against the Clippers.
Doncic praised the 25-year-old center for his unbelievable impact after the win against the Clippers. While Doncic noted he is not surprised by Kessler’s performance, he added that the big man is simply proving a lot of people wrong.
“Unbelievable, honestly,” Doncic said postgame, praising Kessler’s impact. “We know what we’re getting, I’m not surprised by how he’s playing. He knows how to play this game, he played for a long time. I’m not surprised but the fact that he’s doing it, just proving a lot of people wrong is just unbelievable.”
