SAN ANTONIO (Nov. 6, 2026) – The San Antonio Spurs today announced an official partnership with the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT). This new partnership will help promote TxDOT’s iconic “Don’t mess with Texas” campaign, which is celebrating its 40th anniversary. As a result, TxDOT will become a supporting partner of the Spurs I-35 Series, the team’s annual games in Austin.
Beginning this season, the Spurs and TxDOT will work together to share important “Don’t mess with Texas” messaging about keeping our shared community of Texas free of litter, through in-game promotions and on digital platforms, including a special “Stories of the City” social series spotlighting the heart of San Antonio through intimate portraits of the people, places and moments that define the city, and an engaging on-court “horse race” in-game promotion. Together, the Spurs and TxDOT are committed to using their shared platform to teach the next generation about the importance of keeping Texas clean.
“Spurs fans show up for their team, and we’re counting on them to show up for their state, too,” said Norma A. Rios, campaign manager of Don’t mess with Texas. “We’re proud to have the Spurs on our side, reminding fans that Don’t mess with Texas means don’t litter.”
“We take pride in calling Texas home, and caring for the communities and land around us is something we can all be part of,” said Frank Miceli, chief commercial officer of Spurs Sports & Entertainment. “Together with the Don’t mess with Texas campaign, we want to turn that shared pride into everyday action by encouraging fans to keep Texas litter-free, through compelling digital and in-arena engagement. It’s a simple way to make a difference and help preserve the places we love for the next generation.”
