Best first-round NBA playoff matchups

The For The Hoops crew discuss the most exciting first-round NBA playoff series, including Lakers vs. Timberwolves and Rockets vs. Warriors.

The 2025 NBA Playoffs series between the Golden State Warriors and Houston Rockets all comes down to Sunday’s Game 7.

It’s been a wild series since Game 1, when the Warriors neutralized Houston’s home-court advantage to win. Despite stars Stephen Curry (thumb) and Jimmy Butler (hip) both battling injuries in the series, Golden State raced out to a 3-1 series lead, but hasn’t been able to seal the deal.

The Rockets have fought back from the brink with two consecutive wins. A 131-116 win in Game 5 saw every Houston starter put up at least 11 points. Fred VanVleet — who has scored at least 25 points in three in a row — then came up with a 29 point/8 assist/8 rebound performance to get the Rockets a critical road win in Game 6, taking the series back to Space City.
