Nearly six years ago, city streets were filled with jerseys, horns, and ecstatic fans eager to watch the Toronto Raptors at the peak of their 2019 NBA championship win. Now, Toronto is gearing up to celebrate the anniversary of the historic event with a free, all-ages block party this month.
The outdoor event, hosted by the Museum of Toronto, will be held on Friday, June 13 between 6 p.m. and 9 p.m. at the Harbourfront Centre, hoping to “bring together fans, families, and hoop-heads” with a fun night filled with food, music, and all things basketball.
The epic party will be serving classic game day eats and drinks, including hot dogs, soft drinks and beer. And to keep the party going, high-energy beats will be spun all night long by the Raptor’s official DJ, 4Korners.
During Friday’s event, guests can expect to cheer on or lace up their shoes for a 3-on-3 basketball tournament hosted by Raptors 905 broadcaster, Warren Ward.
Meanwhile, the momentous block party will be kicking off the Museum of Toronto’s new pop-up exhibition, “Home Game: Toronto Loves Basketball,” known as the “city’s love letter to basketball,” which will explore the culture, community and game that shaped Toronto.
Guests touring the exhibit will have the opportunity to design and customize their own jersey, take a picture in the Museum of Toronto’s digital locker-room, and discover the art and history of one of Toronto’s most beloved sports.
The celebration comes nearly six years after Kawhi Leonard and the Toronto Raptors defeated the Golden State Warriors 114-110 on June 13, 2019, winning their first-ever NBA championship and first major title in 26 years.
Unable to make the celebratory block party? No need to worry. The “Home Game: Toronto Loves Basketball,” will run until Oct. 12 at the Harbourfront Centre, located at 225 Queens Quay W.
