Memphis basketball coach Penny Hardaway recently made an adjustment to his 2025-26 roster.
Felipe Patino, a junior college transfer from Eastern Florida State College, was granted a release and will not be joining the Tigers for the upcoming season, multiple sources told The Commercial Appeal. The sources requested anonymity since no announcement has been made.
The 6-4 shooting guard committed to Memphis in December 2024, and the program announced his signing on April 25. Patino was expected to provide depth and give the Tigers a sharpshooting option along the perimeter. In his only season at EFSC, he averaged 9.6 points, 4.3 rebounds, and 1.3 assists, while shooting 47.6% beyond the arc (69 of 145) − earning second-team All-Citrus Conference honors.
But Hardaway has stockpiled backcourt depth this offseason: Dug McDaniel, Sincere Parker, Quante Berry, Curtis Givens III, Zachary Davis, Julius Thedford and Daniel Vieira-Tuck. He has also added several wings, including Hasan Abdul-Hakim, Ashton Hardaway and Mason Matthews.
Aaron Bradshaw (7-1) is currently the lone big man on the roster, while forward William Whorton (6-8) is also part of the frontcourt plan.
In light of the House v. NCAA settlement approval on June 6, college basketball teams have a roster limit of 15 players − whether they are on scholarship or not.
As it stands now, Memphis has 12 players either signed or committed − the majority of whom began summer workouts with the Tigers on June 9. First-team All-AAC big man Dain Dainja is ineligible, however he is pursuing a waiver that would allow him to play in 2025-26.
