On weekday mornings, Nevada Sports Net will recap three big headlines of the day in its Morning Download. Read below for today’s topics.
1. Nevada’s Kobe Sanders ranks 53rd on The Athletic’s draft board
Nevada basketball alum Kobe Sanders is ranked 53rd on The Athletic’s NBA draft board, a positive sign for the big wing. Sanders spent four seasons at Cal Poly before using a second senior year with the Wolf Pack when he was named third-team All-Mountain West. The Athletic’s writeup of Sanders lists his positives as being a late bloomer; having good size; getting to and hitting mid-range shots; and being an elite passer. The negatives included a lack of athleticism and foot speed; an inability to separate from defenders; struggling to finish at the rim; questionable 3-point range; catch-and-shoot difficulties; and defensive ability and effort. Sanders also ranks 55th on ESPN’s draft board, which gives him a good shot of being selection in the 59-pick draft. Overall, The Athletic’s Sam Vecenie wrote the following about Sanders as a player summary:
2. Brian Baumgartner hits ACC media day
Actor Brian Baumgartner was the in-person guest at the American Century Championship’s annual media day Tuesday. Best known as his role as Kevin from “The Office,” Baumgartner is one of the fan favorites at the annual celebrity golf tournament at Edgewood Tahoe, also earning the title of your favorite celebrity’s favorite celebrity. Baumgartner is one of around 90 athletes and celebrities in this year’s ACC field; here’s the current list. Our Mike Stefansson did a putt-off with Baumgartner, which you can see below. This year’s ACC runs from July 9-13.
3. Aces’ Adrian Del Castillo hits grand slam in season debut
The Reno Aces’ Adrian Del Castillo made his 2025 season debut after missing the first two months of the season with a shoulder injury, and he did so in grand fashion. Del Castillo launched a grand slam in the ninth inning of the Aces’ 15-9 loss to Sugar Land. Del Castillo, a catcher, is the reigning Pacific Coast League MVP after hitting .312/.399/.603 with 26 home runs and 75 RBIs in 105 games in Reno last season. He also made his big-league debut last season, hitting .313/.368/.525 in 25 games and landing on some top-100 prospect lists this offseason. Del Castillo was 2-of-5 in his season debut and will look to move up to the major-league level soon.
