Welcome to the Open Thread. During the month of June, we are talking NBA Draft. As we lead up to the 2025 NBA Draft on June 25th, we will be revisiting the Spurs draft choices. Today we remember the 2012 NBA Draft.
The Spurs traded the rights to their first round pick as part of a package that sent Richard Jefferson, T. J. Ford, and a conditional first-round draft pick that became Festus Ezeli to Golden State in exchange for Stephen Jackson.
The Silver & Black did retain their second round draft choice. With the 59th pick, they chose Missouri Tigers’ shooting guard Marcus Denmon. He suited up for Summer League, but went no further with the organization. They retained his draft rights until September 23, 2016, when they renounced them.
Denmon played overseas during his entire career. From 2012-2024, he played multiple stints in Turkey, Italy, China, and Greece.
Hard times befell the Mizzou player as he and his brother were arrested earlier this year for their involvement in an armed robbery in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
The Spurs may have had no results from the 2012 NBA Draft, but they obviously built a contender for the 2012-2013 season.
