The New York Knicks have become the center of fascinating trade speculation this offseason.
Their Eastern Conference Finals appearance followed by Tom Thibodeau’s dismissal has created uncertainty about the franchise’s direction.
Multiple trade scenarios have emerged involving the Knicks pursuing marquee talent. The most intriguing possibility involves a potential blockbuster deal for Giannis Antetokounmpo from Milwaukee.
Beverley outlines massive trade framework, proposes Brunson for Giannis
Former NBA player Patrick Beverley weighed in on what such a trade might require. The veteran guard believes the Bucks would demand significant compensation to part with their franchise cornerstone.
“If you go Giannis, I’m asking for either KAT, or I’m asking for Brunson. With that you got to give me a wing, ‘cos Giannis is a wing. I’m thinking maybe Mikael Bridges, OG,” Beverley explained during a recent media appearance.
The former Lakers guard suggested Milwaukee could center negotiations around either Jalen Brunson or Karl-Anthony Towns as the primary asset. Both players would provide the Bucks with All-Star caliber talent in return.
Beverley’s alternative proposal involved a Towns-centric package that would benefit New York significantly. “Let’s go KAT, OG [Anunoby], some type of backup point guard, maybe Deuce McBridge and some picks. Maybe throw Precious in there.”

Despite his proposed trade framework, Beverley believes New York would emerge victorious in any Giannis transaction. The analyst suggested the Knicks lack sufficient assets to match the Greek Freak’s value.
“I don’t even think that’s enough, that’s a fleece, New York wins if that trade goes down. New York win that trade,” he stated regarding his hypothetical package.
However, Beverley expressed skepticism about Milwaukee’s willingness to move their superstar.
“I don’t think Greek going nowhere though. I don’t think the Knicks have anything that can equal Greek Freak.”
Towns emerges as potential trade asset
The Knicks face a fundamental problem when pursuing elite talent. Their limited trade assets force difficult decisions. Any superstar acquisition would require sacrificing another key player from their current roster.
Recent reports about locker room concerns regarding Towns’ defensive capabilities could make the big man expendable. These internal doubts might accelerate discussions about using him as trade bait.
New York’s championship window demands bold moves, but their asset limitations restrict realistic options. Whether pursuing Giannis or Kevin Durant, the Knicks must weigh sacrificing current talent against potential championship rewards.
