The Philadelphia 76ers will be looking to move on after a disastrous 2024-25 season in which everything that could go wrong did for this franchise as their title hopes were dashed as they were hit with a ton of injuries from the get go.

One has to believe that if the Sixers had a healthy Joel Embiid, Paul George, and Tyrese Maxey for the 2024-25 season, they would still be playing right now rather than hoping for lottery luck. However, 24-58 is 24-58 and one has to wonder if President of Basketball Operations Daryl Morey will be looking for the next big move to improve this roster.

If one hasn’t been paying attention, the Milwaukee Bucks were bounced in Round 1 for the third consecutive season and there is a school of thought that Giannis Antetokounmpo has played his final game for the Bucks. There will be a lot of teams lining up making a ton of offers for the perennial MVP candidate and one has to wonder could the Sixers get involved?

The Athletic put together a mock trade involving the Sixers:

The fake trade proposal

Bucks get: Paul George, Jared McCain, 2025 first, 2028 first (via LA Clippers), 2029 pick swap (via LA Clippers), 2030 firstSixers get: Giannis Antetokounmpo

Analyzing the trade

This trade would give the Bucks a potentially fantastic young player in McCain, which would satisfy the “get a young player” component, but George probably doesn’t get it done. The 9-time All-Star is under contract for another three seasons and $162 million, coming off one of the least productive seasons of his career, playing in only 41 games. While Antetokounmpo is now 30 years old, he is still an MVP candidate on a yearly basis. He averaged 30.4 points, 11.9 rebounds, and 6.5 assists in 2024-25, while George is 35 and averaged 16.2 points, 5.3 rebounds, and 4.3 assists while only shooting 35.8% from deep.

Final verdict

The Bucks would likely say no to this trade offer. While the thought of McCain and the slew of draft picks would interest them, George is not enough as he is on the decline, and Milwaukee will be looking for a bigger offer for Antetokounmpo is still very much a top 5 player in this league. Also, from a Philadelphia perspective, one would have to wonder about the potential fit with Embiid. While Antetokounmpo would be a great addition in theory, it might not be the greatest move. George does work better for the Sixers. He just needs a clean bill of health.
