SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — A collection of items belonging to the late basketball and San Diego legend Bill Walton is set to go on sale Thursday as part of a live auction.

The auction, which began at 11 p.m. (2 p.m. Eastern), was organized by Walton’s family in partnership with Hunt Auctions.

It features more one-of-a-kind memorabilia spanning the two-time NBA champion and Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Famer’s entire basketball career — from a student athlete at Helix High School to his time in the NBA.

More than 550 items are included in the collection, including Walton’s 1969 Helix High varsity jacket and UCLA letterman jacket, NBA jerseys and MVP trophy, vintage equipment bags, UCLA Bruins NCAA championship rings, paintings and cover displays of him, among other artifacts.

The collection also has items from his post-basketball life, like Grateful Dead t-shirts and posters, media credentials and paraphernalia from his many philanthropic pursuits.

Those looking to get hold of one of these many items can place a bid on the Hunt Auctions website. A full catalogue of the items can be found here.

“From the very beginning of his athletic career at Helix High School Bill Walton stood out, quite literally,” the company said in an introduction to the collection. “Hunt Auctions is honored to present Bill Walton’s Personal Collection with a significance and variety of materials fittingly unique to a man with an enduring legacy of excellence and kindness.”

All of the proceeds from the auction will go to support UC San Diego Health’s Orthopedic Department, according to Hunt Auctions.

“It is in the spirit of the support that fans displayed to Bill throughout those many seasons that we are sharing some of his memorabilia with that same group of special people,” Walton’s wife, Lori, said in a statement announcing the auction earlier this year. “It is our wish that these items bring back cherished memories for the fans and I am so very grateful that the auction will also support a cause dear to Bill and me.”
