College basketball fans have been left stunned after footage of Hannah Hidalgo appearing to confront Olivia Miles at a recent game went viral on social media.

Hidalgo reunited with her former Notre Dame teammate during Friday’s pre-season clash between the Las Vegas Aces and the Dallas Wings at Purcell Pavilion, a day before she watched Sonia Citron’s WNBA debut, having waved goodbye to the 22-year-old last month after she opted to transfer to TCU for her final year of college eligibility.

The pair were central to Notre Dame claiming another regular season title in 2024 before falling just short in the post-season tournaments, and they will now begin the 2025 season with separate programs. The same can also be said for Citron, who was selected as the third overall pick by the Washington Mystics in the 2025 WNBA Draft.

Nonetheless, fans were excited to see Hidalgo and Miles reunite, although recent footage of that encounter has caused a huge meltdown online. Posted by X user @katemartinlov3r, the 40 second clip starts off with Hidalgo approaching Miles in between the stands, where the two gingerly shake each other’s hands.

However, Hidalgo soon moves in closer to Miles while saying something, with the latter reacting by throwing her head back and becoming animated, motioning with her hands while responding to her former teammate. A number of finger pointing from both girls ensues, before another girl and a security guard join them, taking them out of view.

The bizarre encounter was filmed from someone in the stands and while viewers are unable to hear what Miles and Hidalgo are saying, it is clear to see that whatever it is they were talking about, it wasn’t good. The clip was uploaded on Sunday but has already amassed more than 989,000 views, with many left shocked by what they have seen.

Some have come up with their own theories on what their conversation could have been about and what might have been said, but it’s safe to say that all eyes will be on both girls’ social media accounts over the next few days to see whether they will look to address the video and what went down between them.

Some believe they could have been arguing over Miles’ recent switch to TCU from Notre Dame, with the move coming as a huge shock. Having already lost Citron to the WNBA following the end of her college eligibility, losing Miles was the last thing Niele Ivey needed ahead of the 2025 season.

At the time, Miles’ shocking departure sparked speculation that there may have been issues behind the scenes at Notre Dame – namely between her and Hidalgo, who bonded over both being from New Jersey. The 22-year-old swiftly put these rumors to bed on an Instagram live, however, stating: “Yeah, we’re fine. We are perfectly fine, y’all. There is no beef, there is literally no beef. Y’all are creating it out of thin air.”

Speaking to Sportskeeda’s Mark Medina, Hidalgo applauded Miles for shutting down the rumor before it could take on a life of its own. “It was good for her that she addressed it. However she wanted to address it, it was good for her to address whatever the fan had said,” Hidalgo said.

Addressing Miles’ reasoning for transferring, she added: “You know, it was her decision. If that’s what she thought the best decision for her was, then that’s what is best for her. I don’t know what’s best for her. Only she knows what’s best for her. So whatever she has going on, I wish her all the best. But I’m really focused on what me and my teammates have going on right now.”

Last week, however, Hidalgo raised eyebrows with comments she made in the wake of pledging her long-term future to Notre Dame following the end of the 2024 season, stating that her sense of “loyalty” to her teammates and coaches inspired her decision to stay put with the Fighting Irish.

Issuing a vow to fans, she reaffirmed her commitment to the program, saying: “I think I’m just being loyal, you know I’m with my coaches, my teammates. I’m with them until my last day playing at Notre Dame. I think that was the biggest thing with a whole bunch of stuff with the NIL and the portal and everything like that. I’m where my feet are and I’m happy where I’m at.”
