The New York Liberty are off to a 9-0 start this season, leading the Eastern Conference by three games and being the only WNBA team to remain perfect.

The Liberty’s success this season can be attributed to several factors, including the leadership of championship-winning head coach Sandy Brondello, who took over ahead of the 2022 season.
Before joining the Liberty, she spent eight seasons with the Phoenix Mercury, guiding the team to the 2014 WNBA title and winning Coach of the Year that same year.
In addition to her WNBA role, Brondello has served as head coach of the Australian women’s national team since 2017.

On a separate note, the New York Knicks relieved five-year head coach Tom Thibodeau of his duties last week, despite just having their most successful season since 2000.

Since the move, the Knicks have requested interviews with several head coaches currently employed by other NBA teams. In all five reported instances, their request was rejected.
Brondello spoke to the media on Thursday, and with the Knicks’ clear struggles to fill their vacancy known, one reporter asked her about a potential move to join them.
Writer Geoff Magliocchetti reported, “Sandy Brondello, with a laugh, confirms that the Knicks have not contacted her about their head coaching vacancy.”
There remains no reason to believe Brondello is going anywhere, with her team sitting at a league-best undefeated record nearly a quarter of the way through the season.

The Liberty look ahead to Saturday to extend their win streak to 10. They’ll be at Gainbridge Fieldhouse to take on the slumping Indiana Fever. Tip-off is scheduled for 3 pm ET on ABC.
