The Sacramento Kings sure seem to be thinking about guards who play for or played for the Boston Celtics, according to recent reporting from the Stein Line’s Jake Fischer. Per the Stein Line reporter, newly hired Kings general manager Scott Perry is looking to add some playmaking to the ball club this offseason, and has cast his gaze towards Boston guards past and present to potentially fill that need.
Among the players on Perry’s list include Jrue “Holiday in Boston and Marcus Smart in Washington … and stretches to more affordable free agent ballhandlers like Malcolm Brogdon.”

The duo of former Celtics guards who suited up for the Washington Wizards last season would undoubtedly be cheaper to add to Sacramento’s roster, but even after a pair of seasons, Holiday remains head and shoulders above what either Smart or Brogdon can offer at this stage of their respective careers.

That said, even if no draft capital were to change hands in a deal for Holiday, the salary needed to match would likely need to include one of DeMar DeRozan or Malik Monk to work, and would not likely create the sort of cap savings Boston is looking for without involving a third team.
This is not to say we ought to discount such a possibility, but at least with what we know now, there would be considerably more to any deal with the Celtics, and the cost of such deals might make rolling the dice on Brogdon or even Smart a more palatable risk.
