FORT BRANCH – ‘In 49 other states, it’s just basketball, but this is Indiana.’ This popular-and-common expression among Hoosier natives serves as evidence that basketball in the Hoosier State never truly stops, and what better way to celebrate our state’s passion for hoops than to check out some high-quality Summer basketball in the confines of Titan Fieldhouse and the GSHS Auxiliary Gymnasium in the middle of the calendar year, where the Head Coach Kyle Brasher-led Gibson Southern Lady Titans, the Head Coach Travis Connor-led Princeton Community Lady Tigers and the Head Coach Whitney Powers-led Wood Memorial Lady Trojans each competed in a six-hour day full of hoops, on five different playing courts, on Monday, June 9.

The Lady Tigers’ Varsity and Junior Varsity teams, as well as the Lady Trojans’ Varsity teams each played two games, while the Lady Titans’ teams were split into two Varsity squads and two Junior Varsity squads.

The other schools competing in the Summer League showcase of high school girls basketball on Monday night were Evansville F.J. Reitz (the 2024 Toyota Gibson County Teamwork Classic Champions), Castle, Owensboro Catholic (Kentucky) (who will play in the 2025 Toyota Gibson County Teamwork Classic), Tell City, Evansville Mater Dei, North Posey, Evansville Reitz Memorial, Vincennes Rivet and South Knox (the 2025 IHSAA Class 2A State Champions).

GSHS will host one more day of Summer League Basketball on June 17 beginning at 4 p.m. Central, and fans are encouraged to check out some high-level Summer hoops. Admission for fans over the age of 18 is $5.00 for the full day of basketball, and concessions in the form of snacks and refreshments will be available for purchase.

In addition to the Lady Titans’ fielding a ‘split-squad’ of two Varsity teams, as well as a Junior Varsity team that will compete in the event, the Lady Trojans are slated to compete as well.
