Bronny James was one of the most high-profile NBA prospects ever, mainly because he’s the son of Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James.
Similarly, albeit not quite to the same extent, Shedeur Sanders received so much media attention before the 2025 NFL Draft, as his father is Dallas Cowboys legend Deion Sanders.
The two young players are clearly talented in their own right, but will be held to higher standards than they should due to their profiles.
One former NBA player has now compared the two with brutal honesty, picking out one clear difference between them.

Bronny James is already one season into his NBA career after the Lakers were beaten 4-1 by the Minnesota Timberwolves in the Western Conference First Round.
James showed flashes of potential, usually late in blowout games, but received most of his playing time with the G League team.
Shedeur Sanders, on the other hand, has only just been drafted by the Cleveland Browns. He was expected to go in the first round and fell to the fifth.
Speaking about Sanders’ stock falling, he picked whether he or James is “actually good” as they try to make a name for themselves.
“I think he’s going to get more love than Bronny because people know he was good,” Teague explained on his podcast.
“To know he got dropped like that in the draft or whatever, people are going to champion him because he’s going to be on the bench, and people are going to be like, ‘Put Shedeur in.’ I think he’ll get more love.
“Bronny, people think LeBron… people didn’t think Bronny was good. You know what I mean? [Shedeur] was actually good.”
Bronny James’ Los Angeles Lakers stats in 2024-25 season
Bronny James’ regular season averages are not impressive in the slightest, but that’s not necessarily anything to be concerned about.
First things first, he was the 55th pick in the draft, and players taken around then typically either don’t develop into NBA players or take a few years. That alone should lower expectations on the 20-year-old.

Then, there’s also the fact that his production in the G League was excellent. He put up 21.9 points per game in the developmental league.
He also recorded 5.1 rebounds and 5.5 assists as he showed his all-around ability, including solid perimeter defense.
