The San Antonio Spurs will have two first-round draft picks in the 2025 NBA Draft, their own and one courtesy of the Atlanta Hawks. Last season, they also had two first-round picks but traded their second one to the Minnesota Timberwolves.

The 2025 draft class is expected to be much richer than the 2024 one, so the Spurs are projected to use both picks to further round out their lineup around Victor Wembanyama. Needs include outside shooting and a backup center, although drafting the best player available isn’t out of the realm of possibility.

Regardless, the Spurs are expected to compete for a playoff spot and want “winners” who can shoulder the pressures that come with postseason basketball. College standouts like Kon Knueppel, Walter Clayton Jr., and Derik Queen all fit the bill and could still be available when the Spurs pick.

In a recent mock draft published by Bleacher Report, the Spurs were linked to Egor Demin with the 15th pick, although they highlighted a key weakness of his.

“Bad turnovers, poor shooting, and limited off-ball value just suggest Demin may be tough for NBA playoff teams to trust for minutes next year,” wrote Jonathan Wasserman.

There is no question that Demin has a high upside. In his lone season with BYU, he averaged 10.6 points, 3.8 rebounds, 5.5 assists, and 1.2 steals. However, he shot only 27.3 percent from deep, and his defensive chops are questionable, at best.

He was compared to Josh Giddey, who was famously unplayable during the Oklahoma City Thunder’s playoff run last season.

In the NCAA Tournament, Demin stepped things up. In three games, he upped his scoring and assists averages and shot quite well in the first game against VCU.

Initially projected to be a top-ten pick, Demin’s draft stock slid this season as he did not turn out to be the all-around offensive prospect scouts were looking for, although, like Giddey, he certainly has a role in both the NCAA and NBA.
