All-Star Phoenix Suns forward Kevin Durant will most likely be traded sooner than later, and his preferred destinations should get three fan bases on notice.
ESPN’s Shams Charania reported on Saturday night that Durant’s preferred landing spots for a trade are the Miami Heat, the San Antonio Spurs and the Houston Rockets.
That’s a blow to New York Knicks fans who dreamed of Durant playing in Madison Square Garden this fall, but that’s a huge boost to Heat, Spurs and Rockets fans wanting their teams to contend in 2025 and beyond.
Durant is 36 and might not quite be what he was at his peak, but he is still a superstar who can help change the trajectory of your franchise. San Antonio being on this list is particularly validating to how one of the league’s better players views its future with forward/center Victor Wembanyama leading the charge.
While this doesn’t necessarily mean Durant to the Knicks won’t happen, knowing New York is not one of preferred destinations does make you doubtful that happens. Phoenix apparently will do what’s best for its franchise, so that means the Knicks are technically still on the table. Durant apparently doesn’t prefer them, of course.
As for the Heat, Spurs and Rockets, buckle up. It sure sounds like you’re in the Durant sweepstakes now.
