The United States men’s national team may have lost four consecutive matches in all competitions, but kicking off the Concacaf Gold Cup facing Trinidad and Tobago on Sunday is a chance to refocus. This is the last true competition for Mauricio Pochettino and the squad until the World Cup in 2026, so it’s an important time to come together despite the absence of key players like Christian Pulisic.
Tyler Adams will also miss the match with a foot injury but Jack McGlynn, Diego Luna, and Patrick Agyemang will have chances to raise their stock starting in this match. The USMNT have generally taken care of business at home, facing Trinidad and Tobago, and to kick off the group stage, they’ll want to do just that again in San Jose. The match is a homecoming one for Luna who will have at least 30 friends and family members there to support a player who could become the engine of the midfield.
