“The only person he’ll move over from the one spot is his brother” – LaVar insists that a LaMelo and Lonzo backcourt tandem will bring a championship to the Clippers originally appeared on Basketball Network.
The L.A. Clippers may need a facelift after being eliminated in the first round of the playoffs in each of the last three seasons. While the Clippers have not made moves yet, Big Baller Brand founder LaVar Ball laid out a plan to bring the Larry O’Brien Trophy back to Los Angeles, but on the other side of the city.

According to LaVar, if the Clippers want to win a championship, they must trade for his sons LaMelo and Lonzo, and then sign the third Ball brother, LiAngelo.
“Everyone’s trying to make these trades. Melo should be over here. Melo should be over here. I don’t care where you put Melo. But what I do tell you, if you put him with his brother, he would go back to his original spot, which is the two, which you are trying to make him a two anyway. He loves to score. But the only person he’ll move over from the one spot is his brother Lonzo. Get Lonzo and Melo and Gelo,” declared LaVar.
LaVar taught the Ball boys to play with pace
The Big Baller is credited with training his boys into pro hoopers. All three Ball boys played together for Chino Hills High School and were even teammates during LaMelo’s freshman year. While together, older brother Lonzo ran the point, while LaMelo was a two-guard who loved to fire shots from way, way downtown.

Their father believes that if the three can play together in one team in the NBA, they will not only bring terrific shooting to the Clippers but also play the same fast-paced style that propelled the Indiana Pacers to the 2025 NBA Finals.
“Can’t nobody beat my three boys playing fast,” added LaVar. “Guess what, the Indiana Pacers are in the Finals doing what? Playing their speed game, what I done taught my boys from day one. Can’t nobody beat my boys together.”
It’s unclear if the Clippers have an interest in LaVar’s masterplan
LaMelo is currently signed with the Charlotte Hornets until the 2028-29 NBA season. He is coming off a campaign where he averaged a career-high 25.2 points per game, along with 4.9 rebounds, 7.4 assists and 1.1 steals per game. However, with Melo’s inability to lead the Hornets to the postseason, many talking heads have debated if the Hornets should continue to build around the youngest Ball brother or move on from him by trading him.

Meanwhile, his older brother Lonzo will be an unrestricted free agent in 2027-28, but his 2026-27 season is a team option for the Chicago Bulls. Zo returned from a very long absence and played 35 games for the Bulls this past season, averaging 13.0 points, 5.4 rebounds, 5.1 assists and 1.8 steals per night.
“So the Clippers, bring them god dang Ball boys home and let’s go get this championship and quit messing around,” Ball continued. “All you fans who want a championship back in L.A., yes, a whole new arena with the Ball boys. Who ain’t gonna come watch that show? … If you want a championship … (Steve) Ballmer, I’m talking to you. Go get them Ball boys and let’s ball!”
A starting backcourt of LaMelo and Lonzo would be intriguing in Los Angeles. While it will bring a different level of excitement to the Clippers’ new arena, it’s unclear if it’s the answer to their championship dreams.
