OKLAHOMA CITY, OKLA. (KOKH) — Oklahoma City Thunder players were welcomed back early Friday morning in what’s become an OKC tradition.
Dozens of fans were waiting for the team’s plane to land. Win or lose, it’s clear that these fans aren’t wavering in their support for the team or their hopes of bringing home a championship.
People started arriving around 11 p.m. on Thursday at Will Rogers International Airport, waiting hours for the team to get home from Indiana, landing at 2 a.m.
Around 100 people were cheering on their team despite the tough loss to the Pacers in Game 6.
The energy out there didn’t feel like a loss though. Talking with fans in the crowd, it’s not the outcome they wanted, but it’s clear people are excited for one last chance to bring home the title.
“I would have rather gotten it done, and that way it’s over, done with, and don’t have to worry,” said Thunder fan Kimberly Barber. “But we will take a game 7 at home so we can celebrate right here. We’ll take it.”
The team posted to social media, thanking the loud and loyal fans staying up all night to welcome the squad back home.
The series is tied 3-3 with the Pacers.
The Thunder have a home-court advantage in Loud City for Game 7, which will happen here at the Paycom Center on Sunday at 7 p.m.
