JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (WCYB) — Young girls in Johnson City are getting the opportunity to dribble, shoot, and score while building confidence and friendships at a ETSU Coach Brenda Mock Brown’s basketball camp. Brooks Gym has been transformed into a training ground for young athletes this week, with girls ages 5 to 14 learning basketball fundamentals, including ball handling, defense, shooting, passing, and teamwork.
The camp runs from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day, with half-day campers dismissed at noon. Among those helping out is freshman Emmah McAmis, who played high school basketball at Central in Wise, Virginia.
“You know, coming as a freshman, it can be a little challenging, you know, stepping into a new place,” said McAmis. “It feels like home already, and just being able to build a come, you know, come to a new place and build new connections. It was special for me to kind of experience that, because we did a similar camp, you know, at our high school. And, you know, I was used to the used to the kids, but it just had a different feel this time. And you know, it was just a great couple days that we had all together.”
