PORTLAND (WGME) — Two days after the Dallas Mavericks picked Mainer Cooper Flagg with the first pick in this year’s NBA Draft, the team officially introduced him to their fans Friday afternoon.
The Mavericks are an established team with veteran leaders like Kyrie Irving and Anthony Davis, and they’re expected to compete for a playoff spot this coming season.
At 18 years old, Flagg was asked about becoming the second-youngest player to ever be drafted first in the NBA Draft, behind only LeBron James, who was just 11 days younger when he was drafted first in 2003.
“I’m not sure how my age will play into it,” Flagg said. “I’m just excited to bring my game to the table and just, you know, bring the energy to both sides of the ball and try to impact winning in a lot of different ways. I don’t know what the hardest part will be. I guess we’ll find out pretty soon.”
Most NBA experts expect Flagg, despite his age, to be a major contributor right away.
As for adjusting to Dallas, the lobster roll lover says he’s ready to embrace what Texas is known for: barbecues and tacos.
