MyKaela Alfred, former basketball and track standout at Chapel Hill High School and UT Tyler, has been promoted to head girls basketball coach at three-time state champion Frisco Liberty High School.
Frisco ISD announced the hire earlier this week as Alfred replaces Ross Reedy, who resigned to become head coach at Rockwall.
Alfred, daughter of Carlos and LaSonja Alfred, was the associate head coach this past season and was a varsity assistant coach on Liberty’s squad that won the Class 5A state title in 2024. She also coached track and ESports at Frisco Liberty.
Graduating from The University of Texas at Tyler with a bachelor’s degree in kinesiology and a minor in physical education, Alfred obtained a Master’s degree in Business Administration.
At UT Tyler, Alfred was on the basketball team for two years and also was All-Lone Star Conference and All-South Central Region in track & field. She was on the Patriots’ track squad for five years.
As a senior at Chapel Hill, Alfred led the Lady Bulldogs basketball team three rounds deep in the playoffs, made the Texas Girls Coaches Association all-state team and was named to the Tyler Morning Telegraph All-East Texas team.
Reedy compiled a record of 324-98 at Liberty. Reedy led Liberty to state titles in 2020, 2023 and 2024 and was also a state finalist in 2016, 2019 and 2021.
He worked with the Liberty girls basketball program for 15 years, won eight district titles in 11 seasons as the head coach and was Liberty’s three state titles are sixth-most in Dallas-area history among UIL teams behind Duncanville (12), Argyle (six), South Oak Cliff (four), Mansfield (four) and Lincoln (four).
