LAWTON, Okla. (KSWO) – Former Sooner stand-out Trae Young is set to become the new assistant GM over the University of Oklahoma men’s basketball team.
Young during his time as a Sooner led the nation in scoring (27.4ppg) and assist (8.7apg) during the 2017-2018 season.
Young joined NBA today, and said “I’m excited to announce that I’m accepting a role with OU basketball, and being an assistant GM. As well as donating $1,000,000 to kickstart this whole thing.”
Young added “it’s excited to be a part of this and being from Norman, I’m looking forward to this new role.”
The former Sooners star, said “obviously today the game has changed, with NIL, I think it’s the perfect time for guys to be more involved with the schools who helped make them who they are.”
Young is the second active player to take on a role like this. Steph Curry did the same with his alma mater, Davidson.
