In giving up Michael Porter Jr. on Monday, the Denver Nuggets gained a heck of a player back in Cameron Johnson — and the former Brooklyn Nets forward is excited about his new opportunity.
So too is Ben Stiller, who took to social media and shared a clip of the 29-year-old on The Young Man and the Three podcast. On the show, the well-spoken Johnson was explaining the pros and cons of shirking the schedule in the wake of several big injuries during the postseason. The star actor says Johnson could make a great analyst once he’s done playing and is excited to see him and Nikola Jokic together.

Johnson, through two separate reporters, shared a similar thought to Stiller.
““I’m excited! I get an opportunity to compete with some of the league’s best. What more can I ask for,” he shared with Marc J. Spears.
He added to Michael Scotto, I’m excited to compete for a championship. It’s a new beginning.”
Johnson, a member of the Phoenix Suns’ 2021 Finals team, has been with the Brooklyn Nets since joining them in the Kevin Durant trade. The 6-foot-8 forward headed to Denver, scored a career-high 18.8 points per game on 48% shooting from the field, 39% from distance and 89% from the line over 57 games last year. He also set a new career high with 3.4 assists per contest and stacked 4.3 rebounds per game.
Maybe a championship is back on the table for Denver, like Johnson hopes, Denver’s odds skyrocketed after the trade.
Johnson has only played in a handful of playoff games since leaving the desert, as the Nets have focused more on their future in the last few years. It’s a possible career revitalization for a good player, coming off a strong season, who happens to be on a much cheaper contract than Porter — allowing Denver to build more depth.
The Nuggets added depth right after trading for Johnson via the signing of Bruce Brown. Each seems like a good pick-up for Denver because they’re happy to be in Colorado. Porter did not have that issue, but some players may not be as keen to come to the Mile High City as a role a player, but that’s not an issue here.
Johnson marveled at Jokic’s 30-20-20 game last season on another episode of the same podcast. Now Johnson will get to play next to a player, who he can’t comprehend his peak.
As Stiller mentioned, Johnson is vocal. He was the Nets player rep for the NBPA and he’s been well spoken about by media members for years. Aside from adding some scoring between Jokic and Jamal Murray, he could be a nice personality to add as well to a locker room that has recently seen a lot of change with a new coach and front office.
