In a bid to reinforce a backcourt that fell short of expectations last season, the Sacramento Kings inked veteran point guard Dennis Schroder on Tuesday.

The move comes on the heels of a 40-42 finish in the 2024-25 campaign as the Kings missed the postseason for the second straight year, falling in the play‑in tournament to the Dallas Mavericks.
Sacramento shook things up midseason, parting ways with head coach Mike Brown and trading franchise cornerstone De’Aaron Fox, but neither change was enough to reverse their fortunes in a stacked Western Conference.
According to ESPN’s Shams Charania, Schroder agreed to a three‑year deal, reportedly worth $45 million, to become the Kings’ primary ball‑handler this coming season.
Shortly after the news broke, Schroder took to X to celebrate the signing with three words: “LETS GO KINGS!!!”
Schroder arrives in Sacramento after a turbulent 2024‑25 season that featured stops with the Brooklyn Nets, Golden State Warriors and Detroit Pistons.

Despite this, he averaged 13.1 points alongside 5.4 assists and 2.6 rebounds over 75 games (49 starts), demonstrating his ability to adapt quickly to new systems while providing steady playmaking off the bench or as a starter.
Over his 12‑year NBA tenure, Schroder has averaged 13.9 points and 4.9 assists in 842 regular‑season games, reaching double figures in scoring in all but his rookie year.
His resume also includes a FIBA World Cup MVP award in 2023 and Bundesliga Most Improved Player and Bundesliga Best German Young Player in 2013.

Originally selected 17th overall by the Atlanta Hawks in the 2013 draft, Schroder spent his first five NBA seasons in Atlanta before moving on to the Oklahoma City Thunder, where he was a Sixth Man of the Year candidate twice.

He later suited up for the Los Angeles Lakers, Boston Celtics, Houston Rockets, Toronto Raptors, Nets, Warriors and Pistons, making Sacramento the 10th franchise of his career.
