There is something about family reunions. It is an opportunity to see loved ones, familiar faces, and people you’ve created memories with good and bad. While there are questions to revisiting certain things of the past sometimes it’s good to know you can still go back to a place you call home. That would seem to apply to the Los Angeles Clippers and their former point guard Chris Paul.

According to a recent report, from NBA insider Chris Haynes. Paul has narrowed his final destination to two teams the Clippers and the Phoenix Suns.

Yesterday, was the deadline for players to either opt in or opt out of their contracts. Post Kevin Durant trade to the Rockets this is the busy season of free agency.

Paul 40, has been on a total of six teams. The New Orleans Hornets, Clippers, Houston Rockets, Oklahoma City Thunder, Suns, Golden State Warriors, and the San Antonio Spurs. The question becomes, how can Paul help a team at this stage of his career help a team?

Last season, Paul in 82 games of play averaged 8.8 ppg and 7.4 apg. While he is 40 years old completing 82 games of play with averaging 28.0 minutes of play means he is feeling pretty good at the tail end of his career.

At each stop two things are guaranteed, when Paul arrives he instantly elevates the team better than it was previously, and when he leaves the team isn’t as strong. Paul’s intangibles of leadership, toughness, and IQ are as impactful as his elite ball handling skills mixed with now that deadly mid-range shot.

These kinds of transcendent players cannot be evaluated like 95% of the rest of the league. There can be a case made for Paul being one of the top 10 point guards in NBA history.

With all that being said, this will be a transaction that needs to satisfy both sides. Paul has made it clear that the number one thing that is important about where his possible final destination will be is not basketball but being closer to his family.

Chris Paul on the Pat McAfee Show says he still wants to hoop and believes he can — but being away from his family in L.A. is tough. He’s an unrestricted free agent this summer… Could a Clippers reunion be in the cards? 👀 pic.twitter.com/EYeh9lkhqX

His wife and kids still reside in LA which gives the Clippers a great chance of having a reunion with the former 12-time all Star guard. However, with free agency and everything shaping up how it has been it is a chance for the Suns to retain the point guard they’ve desperately missed since his departure. Where will be the next stop for CP3?Â
