The Brooklyn Nets have now moved past making their picks in the 2025 NBA Draft that happened last week and seem to have made all of the moves they’re going to make in free-agency. Brooklyn made one of the biggest moves of the offseason by trading for Denver Nuggets forward Michael Porter Jr. so it’s time to find out how close the Nets are to winning a championship.
Per BetMGM’s betting lines for the 2025-26 NBA season, the Nets are +100000 (meaning a $100 bet would win the bettor $100,000) to win the league title with the roster as it is. For context, there are three other teams that share the same odds as Brooklyn when it comes to winning the championship next season: Charlotte Hornets, Washington Wizards, and the Utah Jazz.
Nets fans won’t be surprised to know that Brooklyn is one of the least-likely teams to end up in the NBA finals next season given that the team is in a full-scale rebuild, but it’s interesting to see where the team ranks relative to the rest of the league. The Nets head into next season with a roster led by center Nic Claxton, forward Michael Porter Jr., and probably guard Cam Thomas, who still has yet to be signed in restricted free-agency by Brooklyn.
Breaking down the odds even further, Brooklyn is +50000 to win the Eastern Conference, the same odds as the Wizards, but the next tier of teams is intriguing in comparison to the Nets. The Hornets and Miami Heat are +25000 so that could be the betting public seeing the Hornets and Heat as teams that should fare better than Brooklyn, but not by much.
More to the point, it seems that the Nets will be heading for the Lottery next season when the 2026 class is led by players like Kansas guard Darryn Peterson and BYU forward AJ Dybantsa. Along with Brooklyn, here are the seven teams that the Nets will have to compete with for Lottery positioning: Jazz, Wizards, Hornets, Sacramento Kings, Phoenix Suns, Portland Trail Blazers, and the Chicago Bulls.
