Al Horford’s future in the NBA remains a mystery. The veteran center is an unrestricted free agent; however, he’s yet to sign a contract with any team. Horford could choose to retire, head back to the Boston Celtics, or sign with a contending-level roster. The Golden State Warriors have consistently been floated as a potential destination for Horford since the free agency period began.

During a recent episode of ESPN’s NBA Today, Marc J. Spears reported that Horford is purposely taking his time with what could be the final free agency decision of his career. Spears noted that three or four teams have shown interest in adding Horford to their rotation. However, Spears didn’t name those teams, nor did he mention if the Celtics were one of them.

Horford is a key member of Joe Mazzulla’s roster. Not only is he a reliable presence on the court, he’s also a leader in the locker room and on the bench. Nevertheless, Horford may value the opportunity to keep contending for a championship next season, which is something Boston is unable to offer.
