A former Nebraska basketball player has signed a contract to play in the NBA summer league. Jack McVeigh signed with the Atlanta Hawks for the upcoming event in Las Vegas.

McVeigh signed with the Hawks after the Houston Rockets did not extend a two-way qualifying offer. Ben DuBose of Rockets Wire explained the decision to let the guard leave.

“Between McVeigh’s advanced age and reduced defensive ability, relative to the other two, he was likely viewed as the most expendable. He was brought in largely as a 3-point specialist, and while 37.0% was a respectable clip, it wasn’t an elite one.”

The Australian played three seasons for the Cornhuskers (2015-2018). He would appear in 78 games at Nebraska, averaging 5.3 points and 2.3 rebounds per game.

The Hawks will start the summer league against the Miami Heat at 3:30 p.m. CT on ESPN2.
