Even as the final buzzers sounded around the league last Sunday afternoon, the NBA Draft order remained uncertain … even beyond the lottery which takes place in a month.
As Bobby Marks tweeted then, there are a number of ties yet to be broken, including one in the middle of the first round which affects where the Brooklyn Nets will pick on June 25 at Barclays Center…

All ties are broken with a virtual coin toss. The results will likely be announced by NBA Communications via Twitter.
The Brooklyn Nets have the most picks (five) and are the leader in Draft Power Rankings, but their first two picks remain uncertain. As we’ve known since last week, the Nets have the sixth best odds in the May 12 lottery — 9.0% for the overall No. 1 and 37.2% — but we won’t know that result till May 12 when the Lottery is held in Chicago.
Following last Sunday’s final regular season games, there was a three-way tie for the 18th through the 20th picks involving the Nets who hold the Milwaukee Bucks first rounder (from the Mikal Bridges trade;) the Washington Wizards who hold the Memphis Grizzlies first and the Miami Heat pick who hold the Golden State first.
The NBA play-in tournament which concluded Friday night could’ve complicated things further but ultimately it didn’t. (The three-way tie could’ve dropped from Nos. 18 through 20 to Nos. 19 through 21 if the Dallas Mavericks had beaten the Memphis Grizzlies, but the Grizz prevailed, ending that possibility.)
Among the most likely picks in the range are prospects like Nolan Traore, the French point guard; Danny Wolf, the multi-talented 7-footer from Michigan; Carter Bryant, the defensive minded wing from Arizona; and Noa Essengue, the big-framed French forward.
Brooklyn’s three other picks are set:
The Nets could have wound up in another tiebreaker later in the first round if the Nets had not collapsed in Sunday’s game vs. the Knicks, they might have moved up…
And in another what-if, as some fans have noted, the Grizzlies pick could have conveyed to the Nets under come circumstances if they had accepted what Memphis had offered for Dorian Finney-Smith back in December.
Per Kevin Pelton, the Grizz had offered their first rounder this year, protected top 17, along with Luke Kennard whose contract was expiring and Jon Konchar who had three years and $18.5 million remaining on his deal. But the Grizzlies also wanted the Nets own second rounder in this year’s draft as well as DFS in the package. Marc Stein reported that the Grizzlies may have wanted an additional second as well.
The Lakers swooped in and countered with their ultimately successful package of D’Angelo Russell, Maxwell Lewis and three Lakers’ second rounders in 2027, 2030 and 2031 for Finney-Smith.
Moreover, the Grizzlies later sent their first to the Wizards in a trade for Marcus Smart.
