NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) – The Pelicans are days away from starting their Summer League schedule, and they held their first practice Sunday (July 6).
Assistant Coach Corey Brewer will be the head coach of this Summer League team.
He says he thought the first workout went pretty well and spoke highly of the Pels’ first-round picks, Jeremiah Fears and Derik Queen.
Brewer noted Fears’ quickness getting up and down the court, and Queen’s ability to score and pass..
We’ll see that for ourselves on Thursday when the Pels take on the Timberwolves.
For Fears and Queen, after a long draft process, they’re excited to finally be able to compete and prove themselves.
“Lot of workouts. Lot of stuff like that,” Fears said. “But finally being able to be out on the court and get out there and compete and kind of learn your new teammates is something that you don’t take for granted. I’m going to keep enjoying that.”
“I just want to show that I’m one of the best that got drafted this year,” Queen said. It don’t matter that I went 13th, 2nd or 3rd, 4th, don’t matter. I just want to show that I’m the best.”
To see Fears and Queen’s debut in a Pels jersey, tune in to the Gulf Coast Sports and Entertainment Network on Thursday.
The Pelicans face the Timberwolves in their first summer league game, and tip-off is slated for 2:30 p.m.
