The Texas Legends, the Dallas Mavericks’ NBA G-League affiliate, named Max Hooper as their new head coach on Monday.

Hooper takes over for the Legends after serving as the head video coordinator for the Mavericks. He replaces Jordan Sears, who was the Legends’ head coach for the last two seasons

“Max has earned this opportunity through relentless work, a sharp basketball mind, and a clear passion for teaching the game,” Terry Sullivan, Texas Legends General Manager and Director of Player Personnel for the Dallas Mavericks said in a statement. “He brings great energy, a strong developmental mindset, and a deep understanding of both our system and culture.”

Hooper played collegiately at Harvard, St. John’s, and Oakland University before graduating from Oakland in 2016. He played professionally for the Westchester Knicks, New York’s G-League affiliate, and the Niagara River Lions.

His coaching career began in 2018, when he joined Brewster Academy as an assistant. Hooper moved to the NBA, where he spent two seasons on the Los Angeles Lakers staff, including the team’s 2020 championship season, before joining the Mavericks in 2021.

Hooper is the ninth head coach in Texas Legends history.
