Rockets to play Warriors in Round 1 of NBA Playoffs

  • July 8, 2025

The Houston Rockets have solidified their spot in the NBA Playoffs, but their next opponent was still undetermined until Tuesday night.

On Tuesday night, the Golden State Warriors faced off with the Memphis Grizzlies in the 7-seed/8-seed matchup of the NBA Play-In game. The Warriors took down Memphis in a 121-116 win.

The Warriors had an opportunity to clinch the 6-seed and avoid the Play-In in Sunday’s game against the Los Angeles Clippers, but they lost 124-119 in overtime.

The Rockets played the Grizzlies four times during the regular season, going 3-1 in those games. Most recently, the Rockets to the Grizzlies lost on the road on Jan. 30, 120-119.

They played the Warriors five times in the regular season, going 2-3. In their most recent matchup, the Rockets pulled away late to secure a 106-96 win in San Francisco on April 6.

After their latest win over Golden State, the Rockets officially clinched the 2-seed when the Lakers lost to the Thunder on April 8, and Houston still had three games left on their schedule. They went 0-3 in these contests, although it’s worth noting that these games were all against Western Conference playoff teams, and Houston’s starters were played sparingly to avoid injury.
