Former Tennessee basketball guard Chaz Lanier signed a four-year contract with the Detroit Pistons for $8.79 million, according to Michael Scotto with HoopsHype on July 7.

Scott reported the first two years are $3.52 million guaranteed with a third-year trigger date and fourth-year team option on the contract.

The Pistons picked Lanier in the second round of the 2025 NBA Draft on June 26. He was the No. 37 overall pick.

The Nashville native won the Jerry West Award this year as the nation’s top shooting guard for the 2024-2025 season.

Lanier, an Ensworth graduate, played one season with the Vols. He scored 684 points, 148 rebounds and 40 assists. He also broke Chris Lofton’s record for most 3-pointers in a season with 123.

Tennessee reached the Elite Eight with Lanier’s help. He averaged 18 points, 3.9 rebounds and 1.1 assists this past season.

Lanier finished his single season at Tennessee eighth on the program’s career 3-point percentage leaderboard with 39.5% and fourth in 3-pointers made per game with 3.24.

In the Vols’ NCAA Tournament first-round win against Wofford, Lanier made six 3-pointers to tie the Tennessee school record in the NCAA Tournament. Lanier shot 40.2% from the 3-point line and had a 45.8 field-goal percentage in his entire college career.

The 6-foot-5 guard was named SEC Newcomer of the Year after transferring from North Florida and received third-team All-American honors.
