Syracuse, N.Y.—Basketball fans will hear a familiar Syracuse University alum’s voice on Prime Video’s NBA coverage.

Ian Eagle was formally named as Prime’s lead NBA play-by-play voice on Thursday.

Eagle brings over three decades of NBA experience to Amazon.

He has served as the voice of the Brooklyn Nets since 1995 and worked national NBA and NCAA Tournament broadcasts for TNT and CBS since 1998.

Eagle was named the lead voice of the NCAA men’s basketball Final Four in 2024.

“I’m absolutely thrilled to be joining the NBA on Prime team,” said Eagle in a statement. “To be a part of building something from the ground up is truly special and I’m excited to connect with fans in a new way while bringing the energy of the NBA to this enormous platform. Prime Video has put together an extraordinary group, I can’t wait to work alongside some of the most talented people in the industry to inform and entertain the audience for many years to come. It’s going to be a blast!”

Eagle, 56, is a 1990 graduate of SU’s Newhouse School.

He has been honored several times for his play-by-play work, including win eight New York Emmy Awards and being named the Sportscaster of the Year by the National Sports Media Association in 2022 and 2024.

Eagle’s promotion adds to an already strong Orange flavor for NBA coverage starting this season.

Prominent SU alum Mike Tirico will be the lead play-by-play voice for NBC’s NBA package.

Syracuse men’s basketball great Carmelo Anthony will join NBC as an in-studio host for NBA coverage this season.

Eagle’s son, Noah, will call NBA games on NBC in addition to his Big Ten football duties.
